I'm a huge fan of The FATAL series. When I finished reading FATAL (book 1), I could not wait for the sequel! So when Brock mentioned she was actually working on a prequel to the story, I was dying to get my hands on it. And let me tell you, BRUTAL does not disappoint. I adore the characters in this series, and completely immersed myself in their story. It was so cool to learn of their origins and struggles that brought them to where they are in FATAL. Also, Brock's writing is so real and raw, I feel exactly what the characters are feeling. Sometimes that's a good thing, and sometimes it's heart-wrenching. I highly recommend this to fans of the young adult paranormal genre. I love it to death and can't wait for the next book!Product details

PSYCHOCAT READS REVIEW OF BRUTAL BY T.A. BROCK
Right before my 9/20 review of FATAL I found out about BRUTAL. Given how much I enjoyed FATAL and my curiosity about Leiv and Raina’s background, I was delighted to find out T.A. had written the prequel to FATAL. Let’s see if the excitement panned out when I actually read the prequel.
The Book as Part of a Series BRUTAL was written and released after FATAL, and even though it is a prequel to me it does make the most sense to read them in the order they came out. Yes, this story gives the background of the Risers you get to know in FATAL, but because it is shorter you don’t get the same introduction to the world of Risers (zombies). You could read them out of order, just be prepared that some of the pieces may not make compete sense until you read FATAL.
There are also some pieces uncovered in BRUTAL that leave the door open for future books. I’m certainly intrigued to see if the story goes further.
The Characters Leiv and Raina are the primary characters in BRUTAL. I loved getting to know more about them since although they were important in FATAL, what we learned about them was pretty limited. Grayson also appears in the latter part of BRUTAL and we’re able to fill in some of the questions about his history that remained after FATAL.
The Relationships The relationship between Leiv and Raina in BRUTAL wasn’t really what I expected after reading FATAL, but it all comes together to make sense.
Too Perfect or Perfectly Flawed Having read the first book, I had some idea how this one was going to turn out. That being said, I was still sucked into the story of BRUTAL wondering just how they were going to get to the pace where FATAL started.
Jen’s Final Rating 5 STARS! While I would have loved for BRUTAL to be a full-length novel, T.A. still packed one heck of a story into these pages. I definitely recommend picking up both books. Even if you aren’t a huge zombie fan, she’s created a unique version that are completely enjoyable.
Psychocat’s Final Rating Typical Psychocat, she seems quite intrigued by the oracles given their involvement in the story. While she didn’t care to divulge a rating, she seems to be just as taken with BRUTAL as she was with FATAL.
Absolutely love this book. It has several plot twists that keep you guessing. I would recommend it. T.A. Brock has out done herself. Great book.
