The content in this book lives up to the witty title. I found helpful relationship advice (I am a newlywed and also happen to have a dog!). I loved the dog references and found it to be very entertaining. I am working on putting the information into practice in my own relationship. Highly recommend this to anyone in a relationship who could use some friendly pointers from a professional in an easy and enjoyable read.
This book is not only full of insightful thoughts on relationships it's written with great warmth and humor. I loved it, and if my dog could read I'm pretty sure he would love it too.
Although I do not have a dog, I have many friends who do. These friends could really benefit from reading this book. The writer, with so much creativity, shows how any relationship can be improved by following her simple suggestions. You don't need a dog to get a real kick out of this book. Its message is for everyone with a partner who wants to keep his or her relationship alive. It's humorous, well written, and just a great read! Bravo to the author!
This review is for anyone who might have some hesitation about taking this book seriously because of the title. No kidding, humor makes a huge difference in our ability to learn new behaviors; so do metaphors. And "Treat Your Partner Like A Dog" does both. Like the author, I work with clients who are trying to improve something - in my case its self-care practices (eating healthfully, exercising, etc.), and her experience matches my own I often see well-intentioned people in emotional or physical pain buy A Popular But Complex Book on their topic, only to get discouraged within a chapter or two, and lose hope. Shifting our habitual patterns is not easy - and it's even harder when we need to shift these in relationship to our partner. So, having the companionship of a "how-to" book that's fun, funny AND insightful, makes the journey a lot more likely to succeed.
Two more pluses
a) What a wonderfully non-threatening way to offer some advice to friends or family members who might be struggling in their relationships; this book is a lot easier to give as a gift than "The Marriage Counseling Book!"
b) The stories will resonate not only for those who love dogs but also for those who simply know about others who love dogs! I mean, really, you just can't go wrong here....

This book is written for anyone who likes dogs and/or people. It is easy to read--enjoyable and worthwhile. The author is insightful, yet humorous. She offers good, practical suggestions for making relationships work.
This is a wonderful, funny and insightful book about relationships. It will have you rethinking how you relate to your partner. Read enjoy and share it with your partner. I only wish my dog could read.
Well worth it - very funny, and with so much good advice my copy is already dog-eared! I've tried out a lot of the suggestions and I must say, they've already made a difference, although I find myself saying "Good dog!" a lot to my partner.
I highly recommend this book - it's an enjoyable, and certainly much more economical, way to get the benefit of some relationship counseling. My only hesitation was the photo on the book cover. Cute dog, yes, but isn't that the author's partner who's almost completely hidden in the background?? What kind of message does that send? Oh, wait, now I get it! Like I said, a very funny book!
