Zimmer Story A German Shepherd Dog Purpose Trudy Joy Lisa Fantelli 9781520975245 Books

This is such a sweet story from the viewpoint of a dog! I found part of this story for free but when I saw the reasonable price for the whole book, 2nd edition to boot, I grabbed it. It was easier than finding each section - just keep reading!

I had a German Shepherd when I was young and they have always held a special place in my heart (even if I am really a "cat person"). Zimmer reminded me so much of my Eric as a child. He was innocent and yet so protective of his family and willing to do what he thought was needed.

Going over some of the same parts of the story twice -- once from Zimmer's perspective and once from the humans involved -- helped you to understand how a dog might be thinking of things.

I love his little friends, baby turkeys, newborn calves and then a little kitten. The image of Zimmer not moving for fear of hurting the baby kitten was so much like Eric. Eric was that way -- he would let a kitten climb all over him and pounce on his fluffy tale but not hurt it. He would even back off from the baby rather than hurt it. It must be the breed -- Zimmer is the exact same kind of dog!

Through all of this, his steadfast love of his people and accepting of whomever they designate as "friends", helps the humans finally come to terms and heal from the loss of a loved one 3 hears before Zimmer was born.

It's a keeper and a must read!

Great story and great book! My 11yr old daughter loves this book and has read it several times. Definitely recommend this book!
Zimmer a four and a half month old bundle of energy and mischief, or known as a German Shepherd puppy. He was born and spent the first four years of his life in Boston, where he enjoyed walks in the park with his first owner and playing with others before being taken to a new place in Vermont. His first owner had to give him up since her landlord didn’t want dogs in the apartment house. Tearfully she asked a good friend if she could take him. Allyson had a young boy who had wanted and dog and Zimmer seemed to fit the bill. Of course he would be staying at her in-laws farm but that was no problem and she was sure Zimmer would fit right in.

As the car drove from Boston and Zimmer’s old home faded out of sight he had no idea of the new adventures that were awaiting him the closer they got to Vermont. Once at the farm Allyson introduced him to the sights and smells of his new home. Each day was a new adventure and soon Zimmer fits in as if he was always on the farm. He learned how to herd turkeys back in the pen, why he even got save a life. Yep it was easy to say that Zimmer had become an important asset to the Cabot family and farm.

This is a wonderful story that will capture your heart whether you have a dog or not. It’s a story that spans the generations - any age will enjoy.
