A Life Worth Living Lorrie Kruse Books

In A Life Worth Living by Lorrie Kruse, everything in Matthew Huntz's life has seemingly fallen into place. He has a job he loves, a girl to build his life around, a home he's remodeled to begin a family in, but...

What if one moment on an icy road changes it all?

When Matthew Huntz wakes up in a hospital bed, his life has just turned on a dime. Yesterday, he was a healthy, athletic construction worker in his father's contracting company. He was engaged to be married to Crystal, the woman he adores. Now, just twenty-four hours later, he's become a paraplegic unable to get out of bed much less work or walk down the aisle. Tied to rehab and therapy, he feels everything he has worked for and lived for slip sideways.

And then there's the biggest "what if" of all. What if the life Matthew thought he had was already falling apart at the seams and he hadn't even known it?

While he struggles to hold on to the glimmer of hope he will recover the use of his legs, Abby, his physical therapist, tries to keep him grounded in the probable reality that he will remain a paraplegic.

Unlike Matthew, Abby hasn't even come close to having the life of her dreams. Although she enjoys working with spinal cord injuries, she won't be satisfied until she gets the job she ultimately wants--to work with brain injured patients. All of her free time is taken up caring for her mother who was mentally crippled in an accident. Her father, unable to accept responsibility for the accident or for Abby, deserted them. Experience taught her not to trust life to hand her anything but pain and exhaustion.

These are two characters we can root for. Likeable and each flawed in their own ways, they feel very real as we watch them struggle with each new obstacle life throws in their path.

Although at times painful, this novel is also funny and sometimes ironic. It is well worth experiencing. So find a nice soft chair, sit down and enjoy getting to know a cast of characters that will walk you through the question, what if...

A Life Worth Living Lorrie Kruse Books Reviews

the way it was written. made it seem so real
Enjoyed the plot, the characters, and the ending. The writing was well done but I would have like Matt with Abby's time having been developed further. Too much time spent on Chrystal. If you want a fairly chaste novel, this will do. I wouldn't have minded a smidge more though, so I gave four stars. Woulda been 4.5 if that were an option.
Matt wakes up in the hospital, a paraplegic. We follow him as he slowly comes to terms with what that means for him and as he gradually fashions a new life. He ends up looking at a future 100 times better than the one he faced pre-accident. I rooted for him all the way through.
This book has interesting and well developed characters working through real life situations to a heartfelt thoughtful conclusion. I really cared about the people and loved the satisfying redemption of them all.
I finished this book very quickly. I like that fact that it was realistic, especially concerning the outcome of spinal cord injuries. In most stories, the victim will usually end up defying the odds and miraculously be able to walk again. While that is nice, it's just not how it is in real life. I'm glad this author was able to paint a different picture, that life could be good even with being in a wheelchair. I only wished she had touched a little more on the actual physical rehablitation apsects involved. It would have been interesting to learn how Matt learned to drive the hand controlled car etc.. All in all, a very good read. I look forward to her next novel.
I love a romance story that is not in-your-face romance and that's what this story was. I found this page-turner more about overcoming trials than about love. But with love being a by-product of pursuing life rather than sinking into the fear or depression brought on by life's trials. Definitely a positive message for everyone--full-bodied or not--in this read. The other thing I really appreciated about this book is it familiarized me with the intimate details of living life bound to a wheelchair. I never thought about mobility (transportation and maneuverability within a house/business) or human processes (sex, restroom breaks, and more) for the physically challenged until I read this book. I am glad I am now aware of such. Great enlightenment! Good story!
Sometimes a person has to lose it all just to find themselves.

This was a moving, fascinating and ultimately uplifting story of a man learning to deal with paraplegia, and the unraveling of his well-planned life. I liked Matt. I got what he was feeling, it made sense, and I learned from him. I liked Abby. I got where she was coming from as well, and I wanted her to find her HEA. And I liked all of the secondaries - even though I probably wasn't supposed to like all of them all the time. But they were real. Ms. Kruse wrote an excellent novel that made me think, that made me feel, and finally, made me smile.

Sometimes the path to a happy ending takes some very unexpected twists and turns.
